Cemetery
This peaceful, country cemetery is a ministry of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and, as such, adheres to the teachings of the Catholic Church. This special ministry reflects our belief that burying the dead is a corporal work of mercy. It is our firm conviction that the dead shall rise again to be together, with the Lord, in his Kingdom.
We are ready to serve you and your family and ensure you are supported throughout your time of greatest need.
PLEASE NOTE: This year, St. Lawrence Cemetery will not be selling cemetery wreaths and grave blankets. In addition, you will not be required to purchase tags prior to placing wreaths and blankets on graves. Please purchase your wreaths/blankets from other vendors and feel free to place them on the graves of your
loved ones any time after November 15th.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you have to be a member of St. Lawrence to be buried at the cemetery?
No, all persons are welcome.
Must cremated remains be buried? Can they be buried over an existing grave?
Our Catholic faith requires cremated remains be located in a sacred place, not scattered or kept at a loved one’s home, to ensure they remain included in the prayers of their entire Christian community. Several options are available and include burial in an individual (smaller) plot, burial over a vault located in a full size plot, or, they may be placed in a niche within our Columbarium or our Mausoleum. Both have single or double niches available.
Can we place an above ground memorial or must the marker be at ground level (flat)?
Some above ground markers are allowed in specifically designated areas. Such monuments must not be taller than 36”. Carvings, inscriptions, epithets, etc. must be of a religious nature. All markers must be approved by St. Lawrence’s Cemetery Coordinator.
Who arranges for engravings on the niches and crypts in the Mausoleum/Columbarium?
St. Lawrence’s Cemetery Coordinator will work with you and will place the order to ensure a consistent appearance throughout the cemetery.
Is there an additional fee for perpetual care?
No, this is included in the price of the burial
History
In 1878 the St. Lawrence Cemetery was consecrated on land deeded to Bishop Borgess of the Archdiocese of Detroit. The oldest memorials in the cemetery reflect the Irish roots of the original 45 Irish Catholic families that had settled in the area. Subsequently, the land that extends to the Clinton River (behind the original parcel) was purchased to retain the cemetery’s tranquil atmosphere. The mausoleum and columbarium were also added to provide a variety of options for our families. A veterans memorial was dedicated in 2016. Please visit to discern if this, quaint, easy to access location is the right option for you and your loved ones.
