Baptisms
“With this celebration of Baptism, the Lord grants each of us the chance to live the beauty and joy of being Christians, that we too, may introduce baptized children to the fullness of following Christ.” [Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI]
Baptisms at St. Lawrence are scheduled on Saturdays after the 4:30 PM Mass and on Sundays after the
12:00 PM Mass. On occasion, a baptism can be scheduled during the Sunday, 10:00 AM Mass. It is strongly encouraged to begin making arrangements at least 2-3 months in advance. It is likely there will be more than one child baptized on each available date. The number of children baptized on a specific date will not exceed four.
If this is your first child being baptized at St. Lawrence, parents and Godparents are required to take a Baptism Class.
If the parents and/or the godparents have attended a Baptism Class during the past 2-3 years, the class will be waived. If a parent or godparent lives outside of the St. Lawrence area, he/she should make arrangements to attend a Baptism Class at a Catholic Church in their surrounding area (i.e. another city or state). That person should get a letter of confirmation from the Catholic Church at which he/she attended the Baptism Class. The letter should simply state the name of the individual who took the class, the name of the Church where the class was held and the date the class was taken. The letter should be signed by a priest from the parish or person who conducted the class. The letter should be sent to St. Lawrence prior to the scheduled baptism.
The number of children baptized on a specific date will not exceed four.
Please contact Celeste Herman at St. Lawrence (586.731.5347) for further information about Godparent requirements, additional questions and to schedule your child’s baptism. Thank you.
marriage
He answered, “Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one’? So they are no longer two but one. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Matthew 19:4-6)
Congratulations on your engagement!
Marriage arrangements require a six-month parish registration and active Mass participation. Adults over the age of 18 must be registered on their own and not under their parent's or grandparent's registration. Attending St. Lawrence School or receiving other sacraments at St. Lawrence does not automatically mean you are a registered parishioner.
Wedding dates are not given out over the phone or before you have been active parishioners for at least six months.
Please call Carol at the Parish Office (586-731-5347) or email her for information.
Anointing of the Sick
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is for those in danger of death, in critical condition or preparing for a medical procedure. The intent of this sacrament is to give strength to the soul of the sick person, to give them the grace and encouragement to bear their illness with dignity. It also absolves all sins the person is sorry for but did not previously confess during the Sacrament of Reconciliation. (In the past, this Sacrament was called Last Rites.)
Catholics are able to receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick more than once.
Parishioners should call the parish office to set up an appointment for this Sacrament. If you would like the person receiving the Sacrament of Anointing to be added to our Prayer List that is published in the bulletin, please let the Parish Office know by phone or by filling out the form on the home page of this website.
funerals
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.” (John 14:1-3)
We, at St. Lawrence, are so very sorry for your loss. Please know of our prayers as you prepare to lay your loved one to rest. Funeral Masses are typically celebrated at 10:00 am. In certain circumstances, we may also celebrate the Mass at noon. Please contact the funeral home with whom you are working. They will, in turn, contact the St. Lawrence Parish Office with your requested date. One of our priests will then contact the family to make final arrangements for the funeral liturgy.
